John Downing purchased it in 1880, he was one of the Founders of the limestone quarries. In 1902 the second story was added and the house remained with the family until they sold it in 1969. bought it for $2.00 in 1992 from Beachvilime Ltd. The original dollar bills were given back and are hanging in our hallway. Beachville was the heart of Oxford County and possesses a fascinating history. It was one of the first settlements in Oxford since 1791, when it was first founded. Some other firsts - Tthe first ever recorded Baseball game in North American history - first gristmill, post office, Catholic Mass and has the largest open faced quarries in Canada.  |
